Julie Johnson

Research Assistant Professor

Dr. Julie Johnson received her Master's Degree from Auburn University in 1997 and her Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 2003. She is a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at Vanderbilt and an Instructional Designer at the Institute for Software Integrated Systems under the Prototus Project.

Research Interests: My current research focus is in the area of teaching and learning. Working on the ACT-Online project sponsored by DHS, we are currently collecting data on how adult learners use the Star Legacy based online learning system. Questions pertaining to retention, study habits after a failed exam attempt, and emerging use patterns of the star legacy phases are of particular interest.

In the face to face classroom I am interested in challenged based learning and how this method can be used in Computer Science classes. I have also done work with CAPE/eLMS homework exercises that offer students immediate feedback during homework assignments.

Johnson served in the United States Army as a helicopter test pilot with the 101st Airborne Division (ASSLT).

Dr. Johnson has an Erdos number of 3.
